Shopify – Import Warehouse Bin Locations using Product Tags

Product Tags are a legacy method. We recommend using Shopify Product Metafields instead, as Product Tags cannot be assigned to individual variants.

Written by Meegan

ReadyToShip can import warehouse or bin locations from Shopify Product Tags.

⚠️ Note: Product Tags are a legacy method. We recommend using Shopify Product Metafields instead, as Product Tags cannot be assigned to individual variants.

Add a Bin Location Product Tag

  1. In Shopify, open the Product you want to update.

  2. Locate the Tags section.

  3. Add a new tag using the format below:

Location:XXXXXXXX

Replace XXXXXXXX with your warehouse or bin location.

Examples

Location:AA-23-C-3-1
Location:SHELF-A12
Location:BIN-001
  1. Save the product.

Once the tag has been added, ReadyToShip will import the location value for any new orders received after the tag was created.

Tag format requirements

The tag must:

  • Begin with Location:

  • Contain no spaces before or after the colon

  • Include the warehouse or bin location after the colon

The location value can contain:

  • Letters

  • Numbers

  • Dashes

Example

If your warehouse location is:

AA-23-C-3-1

Your Shopify Product Tag should be:

Location:AA-23-C-3-1

⚠️ Important Notes

  • Product Tags apply to Products only and cannot be assigned to individual Variants.

  • If you need different locations for different variants, use Shopify Product Metafields instead.

  • Location data is only imported for new orders received after the Product Tag has been added.
