Why U.S. Customs May Reject Your Shipment
Shipments to the United States can be delayed or rejected by U.S. Customs if the information provided is unclear, incorrect, or non-compliant.
While ReadyToShip requires key details like HS Code and Country of Origin, it is the sender’s responsibility to ensure all information is accurate.
Common Reasons for Issues
1. Vague product descriptions
Descriptions like “gift”, “sample”, or “item” are not acceptable.
Be specific (e.g. “men’s cotton t-shirt”).
2. Incorrect HS Tariff Codes
If the description and HS Code don’t align, shipments will be flagged and returned to sender.
3. Wrong Country of Origin
This must be where the item was made, not where it’s shipped from.
4. Unrealistic declared value
Values that are too low can cause rejection. You must declare the true value of the goods, even if the customer got it for free or at a heavily reduced price.
5. Missing or incorrect item weights
Individual item weights AND total package weight MUST be declared for all orders.
Important
You should check all details are correct and printed on the label prior to lodgement.
If you're unsure, check your product details before shipping or speak with a customs expert.
