Shopify: How to add HS Tariff Codes to products

Shopify has a built in function for users to add HS Tariff Codes and Country of Origin directly in each product in their store. If you ship internationally it is highly recommended you do this, as most countries will reject parcels without the information.

In the Shipping section of each product in your Shopify store, there is a link to enter customs information which allows you to enter the Country of Origin and the HS Tariff Code. Follow these steps:

1. Open the product in Shopify.

2. Scroll to the Shipping Section.

3. Click on the Add customs information link and add the Country of Origin and HS Tariff Code (ensure no decimals).

4. Save the changes.

They will then automatically come through with any new orders placed in your store AFTER you have added all the codes.

Different countries require different tariff codes. Shopify allows you to store multiple tariff codes by country/region in your products. If you have this set up, we will import and display the HS Tariff Code that corresponds with the destination country of your order.

We recommend you always add the Global Code first, and Shopify has a lookup tool to help you choose the correct code. Just start typing a description of your goods and select the best fit.

To add codes by country, click the three dots beside the section heading.

Then select Add HS Codes by country/region from the dropdown box.
Choose the country you wish to add a specific code for, then in the field provided you should enter the code. There is no lookup in this field, so you will need to look it up and add it manually.

Most countries accept the 6 digit global HS Tariff Code, but the following countries require a different format:
