DHL Express: Connect your carrier

How to connect your DHL Express account to ReadyToShip

Written by Nathan Huppatz

Before connecting DHL Express to ReadyToShip, ensure you have:

  • An active DHL Express account. (If you don't already have one, go here to set one up.)

  • Your DHL Express API Key and API Secret.

If you haven't obtained your API credentials yet, login to the DHL Developer portal to obtain them. Click here for instructions.

Step 1 – Add DHL Express as a carrier

In ReadyToShip:

  1. Go to Settings > Carriers.

  2. Click Add Carrier.

  3. Select DHL Express.

Step 2 – Enter your DHL Express account details

Enter the following information:

  • DHL API Username (API Key)

  • DHL API Password (API Secret)

  • DHL Express Account Number

Click Test Connection.

If your credentials are valid, ReadyToShip will display the carrier settings screen.

Step 3 – Configure your default carrier settings

Complete the default settings for your DHL Express connection.

Carrier Name

Enter a name for this carrier connection eg. DHL Express

This can be anything you like, particularly if you have multiple DHL Express accounts connected to ReadyToShip.

Drop-off Type

Choose how your parcels will be collected.

  • Regular Pickup – Select this if DHL already collects from your business on a scheduled pickup. ReadyToShip will not request a courier.

  • Request Courier – Select this if you want ReadyToShip to automatically request a DHL courier pickup when you create your shipment.

Incoterm

Choose who will pay any applicable import duties and taxes.

  • Duties Consignee Paid (DDU/DAP) – The recipient pays any applicable import duties and taxes before delivery.

  • Duties Shipper Paid (DDP) – The sender pays the applicable import duties and taxes.

Important: Selecting the wrong Incoterm may result in unexpected charges for you or your customer. Ensure you select the option that matches your shipping agreement and checkout process.

Default Country of Origin

Select the country where your products are manufactured or produced, not the country you are shipping from.

This value is used as the default for your shipments and can be changed for individual products or orders if required.

Default Goods Classification

For ecommerce shipments, select:

  • Sale of Goods

Important: Selecting an incorrect Goods Classification may result in customs delays or your shipment being returned. "Gift" cannot be selected for business shipments, even if it is a replacement item.

The empty box below the Goods Classification is for a Description of shipment contents.

This is optional, as we use your product titles by default. However if all your products are the same, you can enter a default description of the products here. Eg. Ceramic Coffee Mug.

EORI ID

If your business is registered with an Economic Operators Registration and Identification (EORI) number for shipping into the European Union, enter it here.

If you do not have an EORI number, you can leave this field blank.

Step 4 – Save your connection

Click Save DHL Express Connection.

Your DHL Express carrier will now be available in ReadyToShip.

Editing your DHL Express carrier settings

You can update your DHL Express settings at any time.

  1. Go to Settings > Carriers.

  2. Select your DHL Express connection.

  3. Click Settings.

Make any required changes and save your updates.
