How to Install DirectPrint and print directly to your printer

Send pick lists, invoices, labels, and manifests directly to any printer with one click

What is DirectPrint?

ReadyToShip DirectPrint enables you to print to a remote printer not connected directly to the computer you use ReadytoShip on.

DirectPrint is a remote print client. It supports DYMO, Zebra, HP, OKI, Epson, and countless other brands and printer types.

How does it work?

First, you install DirectPrint on the computer connected to your label printer and log in to DirectPrint with your ReadyToShip account login details.


When installed correctly, DirectPrint tells ReadyToShip which printers you have connected and are available to use.

You'll need to configure your carrier in ReadyToShip to send print jobs (labels, invoices, manifests) directly to the printer.

This means you can use ReadyToShip anywhere and labels will be printed remotely to your packing/dispatch area.

Step 1: How to Install DirectPrint

Installing on a Mac

  • Download the DirectPrint client software from Settings ⇒ DirectPrint in ReadyToShip. You will receive a ReadyToShipDirectPrint.dmg  file.

  • Double-click the file to open it.

    You might get the message:


"Your security preferences allow installation of only apps from the Mac App Store and identified developers."

  • Drag the ReadyToShipDirectPrint icon to the Applications folder to install it.

  • Go to your Applications folder.

  • Right-click on the ReadyToShipDirectPrint icon and choose Open.

  • Enter your ReadyToShip username and password and click Sign In. An icon will appear in your menu bar and you can use it to access the client later if you need to.

Installing on a PC

  • Download the DirectPrint client software from Settings ⇒ DirectPrint in ReadyToShip. You will receive a ReadyToShipDirectPrint.exe  file.

  • Double-click the file to open it.

  • Follow the prompts to install it and run for the first time.

  • Enter your ReadyToShip username and password and click Sign In. An icon will appear in your menu bar and you can use it to access the client later if you need to.


Step 2: DirectPrint updates ReadyToShip

DirectPrint will update ReadyToShip with the printers you have available.


Step 3: Set up DirectPrint

Once you have downloaded the client and installed it on the computer attached to the printer, you can choose which reports and labels will go directly to the printer.

Go to Settings > DirectPrint. We will detect the installation and show your available printers in the install step. If you see Computer Offline, you will need to make sure the DirectPrint application is running and logged in correctly. If not, try restarting the app.

Click Open Print Settings beside any carrier listed, and it will take you to the Print Settings page for that carrier. Select a printer for each of the steps you would like to print directly from ReadyToShip.

You can also get to the Print Settings page for each carrier by navigating to Settings > Carriers, clicking on the blue cog icon and then Printer Setup.

Note: not all carriers are available to use with DirectPrint at this stage.


Step 4: Print pick lists, invoices, and manifests with DirectPrint

You can use DirectPrint to print pick lists, invoices, and manifests for any carrier. 

Printing labels using DirectPrint requires support from the carrier - see the list of carriers here and look for the logo next to a carrier to see if it supports label and manifest printing.

NOTE: When using DirectPrint, labels and PDFs produced are not saved in our system. Instead, they are sent directly to your printer. If you wish to save a local copy, you can enable this setting within DirectPrint as shown below:

Using DirectPrint

The shipping run for a carrier shows an icon for each step that has DirectPrint enabled:


Clicking the button will now send that file directly to the printer rather than popping up a dialog or a pdf.

If you have issues with labels or documents not printing out in the correct size, this is usually because your Windows/Mac printer preferences aren't set correctly.
